Microsoft adjusts partner ecosystem, promotes AI and agent-based Microsoft 365 bundled solutions
In preparation for the May 1 launch of Microsoft 365 E7 and Microsoft Agent 365, Microsoft is adjusting its partner ecosystem, adding new specialty certifications, and updating distributor standards to help partners better sell AI and agent-based bundled solutions.

Quick Overview
- Nicole Dezen, Microsoft's Chief Partner Officer and Corporate Vice President of Channel Partner Sales, said ina blog post on Tuesdaythat Microsoft fine-tuned its vast partner ecosystem ahead of the May 1 launch of Microsoft 365 E7 and Microsoft Agent 365 AI office productivity bundles.
- The software giant added service and channel partner specializations to theFrontier badge certificationlaunched last November as part of a broader program overhaul. The company also updated its Frontier distributor certification to make it easier to identify partners with agentic AI capabilities.
- "Distributors are critical to our work serving small and mid-sized business customers, so the Frontier distributor certification will better reflect what partners truly need to scale agentic AI in the channel when serving SMBs," Dezen told Channel Dive. "It's all about helping resellers identify distributors that can enable... them to transact through the Microsoft marketplace and grow their agent sales business."
Deep Insight
Microsoft's program adjustments around AI align with similar moves by its hyperscale cloud peers.
Earlier this week, Google Cloud established a$750 million partner fundto provide AI training and resources for partners. The company in Decemberoverhauled its partner program, adding AI capabilities to the Google Cloud partner portal and creating incentives to drive co-selling, post-sales services, and collaborative software development.
AWS, the largest of the three cloud providers, has taken a similar path since last year. In November, the company announced it would restructure incentives, simplify third-party provider benefits, and introduce third-party provider discounts, effective January 1。
Generative AI and agentic AI have been central to AWS's strategy. The company introduced three agent-specific AI capability partner categories for software and service providers in November and deployedagents to assist partners。
Before launching the Frontier partner badge last year, Microsoft had adjustedits cloud marketplaceto encourage partners to use AI more. According to Dezen, these efforts are continuing.
"We know that to have credibility and deep expertise in AI, partners must use AI themselves," Dezen said. "It's not something you can sell automatically. Having real-world, hands-on experience with the product makes partner salespeople better salespeople."
